NBN LEO
(Low Earth Orbit) service
NBN has partnered with Amazon’s Project Kuiper (rebranded as Amazon Leo) to replace its geostationary satellites with a constellation of low‑earth‑orbit satellites.
LEO satellites orbit much closer to Earth (~630 km), so customers should experience much lower latency and higher speeds; proposed tiers start at 50/10 Mbps.
The project is still in consultation; trial services are planned to begin in Tasmania in the second half of 2026 . Nationwide availability is expected to roll out progressively after that.
Sky Muster Plus
Uses NBN’s existing geostationary (GEO) satellites to serve regional and remote Australians.
On the standard Sky Muster Plus plan, most everyday activities (web browsing, social media, downloading apps, emails) are unmetered; only streaming services and VPN traffic count toward a data cap.
On Sky Muster Plus Premium, all data is uncapped for any activity. Typical busy‑hour download speeds range from ~19 Mbps to ~54 Mbps depending on the tier you choose.
Fair‑use policies still apply, and NBN may slow certain types of traffic during network congestion.
Launtel is currently in the process of onboarding to offer Sky Muster Plus plans to our customers, and expects this to be ready in late August 2026.
